Update Your Skincare Routine

Dear Audrey,
I have been washing my face regularly, use moisturizer and sunscreen, and I occasionally exfoliate. I think I’m covering all of my bases, but my skin could use more TLC. Do you have any recommendations for giving my routine a boost?

Absolutely! Skincare has come a long way over the years. Here are a few things that I can suggest you try to include in your skincare regimen along with regular use of a cleanser, moisturizer, exfoliate and sunscreen.

1. Pre-Cleanse

Did you know that sometimes one isn’t always enough? Dirt, makeup, and other pollutants build up on the skin. This inhibits the skin from regeneration and causes premature aging. To slow the clock, try Dermalogica pre-cleanse. It helps to break down the pollutant barrier, so your cleanser will have better results.  This is especially useful in the evening when you have accumulated a days’ worth of oil, dirt, and makeup.

2. Tone

You may remember back to a time when all toners were typically witch hazel or alcohol based and very drying. This misnomer has caused some to skip the toner. I highly recommend that you don’t! Toners like Murad’s Essential-C Toner are now full of beneficial ingredients that hydrate, firm and protect your skin from free radicals with restorative antioxidants. They even help your skin to absorb your moisturizer better!

3. Targeted Treatments

These specialists work smarter, not harder, to get the job done right! Sometimes we want to plump up an area, like the lips for example. Dermalogica Nightly Lip Treatment works while you sleep to plump the laugh lines, lips and surrounding areas to give fullness and diminish fine lines. Other areas need to be de-puffed, like under the eye. Stress Positive Eye Treatment works to reduce puffiness and dark circles while firming and lifting the eye area.  And don’t forget your neck and décolleté! These areas also benefit from regular use of cleansers and moisturizers as well as a treatment like gloTherapeutics Neck Firming Serum.

4. Masks & Serums

These are both great ways to target general and specific concerns. Serums can be used after cleansing and before moisturizing for added benefits. Masks are great too! They provide a chance to take a break from our busy schedules and reduce stress, another cause of aging!

Keep up the good work and enjoy all of the benefits of a balanced skincare regimen!
