Help! I colored my hair but the tone is off, and it is way too gold for me! Is there anything I can do to fix it without taking drastic measures?
We have some great solutions for unwanted tones that are easier than you think!
Let’s start with some basics!
Light and Dark
Hair color is measured from dark to light on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 essentially being Black, 10 is Lightest Blonde. It is essential to know the level of your hair when choosing a color. Not sure? Come into one of our locations and a staff member would be happy to help you find yours.
In the color wheel, opposite colors cancel or neutralize each other. These combinations of colors are as follows: yellow and purple, green and red, blue and orange. For example, if your hair is too gold, a violet color will cancel it out and make it more neutral. Here are a few of our favorite products that can help you customize your color just the way you like it.
Color Depositing Shampoos
This is a simple way to get some color or change a tone quickly. They are also layer-able. That means that the more you use them, the more color you get. Reduce frequency for lighter tones.
We have a great selection of color depositing shampoos that range from a little bit to a lot of color depending on what you are looking for. Celeb Luxury Gem Lites or Tressa Watercolors are perfect to add color to natural tones and Celeb Luxury Virals are especially great for more dramatic looks on pre-lightened hair.
Color Depositing Conditioners
Again, this is another excellent and easy way to get some color or change a tone quickly without a lot of fuss. Plus they are also layer-able, so you can adjust the color by the frequency of use. We love Kera Color Clenditioners. It’s a one and done: shampoo, conditioner, and color.
Toning Bleached Hair
You may consider a permanent toner to get the perfect blonde shade after bleaching. Wella makes some beautiful toners you can use after bleaching. After, you can switch to a toning shampoo or conditioner. Remember, violet, to remove yellow!
Filling In or Covering Up
A great way to fill hair lacking in pigment or just plain cover something up is with a semi-permanent product like the Clairol Beautiful Collection. These come in a handy applicator bottle and do not require any mixing. Just grab some gloves and go! The larger color molecules are great at filling in if your color looks washed out or muddy.
Sometimes the subtle approach isn’t enough, and you may need to call on a professional for a color correction. Come in and speak with one of our salon professionals. They will help you get back on track with the least amount of damage.
